Singing - Big Heart and Soul Choir
“For thousands of years all over the world people have sung – to express joy, celebration and grief, to accompany work and devotion, to aid healing – without worrying about having a ‘good’ voice or ‘getting it right’. Song has been a part of life, a way of binding the community together. Singing and singing together is natural and open to all”.

Big Heart and Soul Choir in Castleacre, Norfolk co-directed by Noralf Mork and Jane Wells
Big Heart & Soul Choir was established in 1997 and Noralf and Jane took over as co-directors in 2007-8. Between them they bring to the choir teaching, rehearsing, conducting, arranging, piano accompanying and singing technique skills. All songs – in a mix of folk, jazz, pop, ‘world’ and classical influences - are taught by ear so there is no need to read music. Above all the emphasis is on enjoyment whilst singing well together as a group.
The singers consist of a friendly core group of founder members along with many others who continue to join so that the group generally numbers around forty people. The choir gives two concerts a year, one just before Xmas and one before the summer. The choir also runs occasional workshop days given by excellent singing leaders from around the UK and sometimes hosts visiting choirs from abroad.
Sessions are held weekly on Wednesday evenings 7.15-9.15pm at Castleacre Village Hall in term times throughout the year. Any adult can come along for two free ‘taster’ sessions. After this the cost is £5/session for those not in work or retired, and £6 for others.
